The Area

The Lizard Peninsula has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Organisations concerned with its welfare include the Nature Conservancy Council and the National Trust.
The nature reserve at Goonhilly is of international botanical importance. The abundance of plant life provides support to many rare insects, reptiles and birds.
In addition to the wildlife there are many villages with bays, sandy coves and quiet, secluded beaches. The peninsula is the most Southerly point in mainland Britain and gets the full benefit of the Gulf Stream.
As a consequence, it is considered to be the warmest place in the British mainland.
